A Look inside the Chivido and Otedola white weddings. Africa’s Richest Man, Dangote, as VIP at both events

A Tale of Ice and Fire- Same Weekend, Different Vibes

What do two of Africa’s biggest stars have in common this week? Their happily ever afters were a study in contrasts. One chose a quiet, breathtaking backdrop for a select few, while the other threw a monumental bash for the world to see. Yet both were equally magical in their own right, reminding us that there's no single "right" way to celebrate love—just your way.

Last weekend, Mr Eazi and Davido—two of the continent's biggest stars—took us on a whirlwind tour from the arctic to the tropics, and the internet is still recovering.

Now, we just need to know which wedding had a better after-party, and let’s stop kidding-who served better jollof rice.

Mr Eazi and Temi Otedola in Iceland

On one side, we had the "cool" and mysterious fairytale. On Saturday, August 9, 2025, musician and entrepreneur Mr Eazi and his fiancée, model Temi Otedola, did the unthinkable: they got married in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Yes, Iceland. The land of ice and glaciers—not exactly the first place you'd think of for a celebrity wedding, which is exactly what made it so iconic. The couple said "I do" in the stunning Hallgrímskirkja Church, which was privately transformed into a floral wonderland. With a small, exclusive guest list that included Temi's sister, DJ Cuppy, her billionaire father Femi Otedola, and a guest so important he had to be at both weddings: Aliko Dangote, Africa's richest man. It was an intimate, elegant affair that proved you don't have to be loud to make a statement.

From Reykjavik to Miami: Chivido Takes Over

The very next day, the party went from understated cool to unapologetically hot. On Sunday, August 10, 2025, Afrobeats megastar Davido and his longtime partner, Chioma Rowland, threw a white wedding so lavish it had a hashtag of its own: #Chivido25.

The celebration in sunny Miami was a no-holds-barred spectacle, a dazzling display of wealth, style, and pure joy. We're talking a celebrity-studded guest list, an unforgettable performance by D'banj, and a fashion parade that had everyone on social media taking notes. Chioma was a vision, a true fashion chameleon, wearing multiple custom looks. She started the night in a stunning gold and bronze beaded gown by Jennifer Rowland, and later appeared in opulent white couture adorned with ostrich boas and luxe emerald jewelry from Anayah Jewellery. Davido looked effortlessly suave in a crisp black tuxedo.

But the real jaw-dropper? The price tag. In a video that went viral before the event, Davido casually revealed that the wedding cost an estimated $3.7 million in cash. As if that wasn't enough, he gifted his bride a Richard Mille RM 037 timepiece, valued at a cool $300,000. Rumor has it, the surprises aren’t over yet, with a jaw-dropping $1 million (₦1.55B) engagement ring reportedly still to come. It's safe to say this was a celebration designed to be seen—and it was.

How Do We Know About The Price Tag?

Both celebrations came with the kind of price tags you’d expect when the names Adeleke and Otedola are on the invitation. DJ Cuppy—Otedola’s oldest daughter and a music star in her own right—has often joked about her family’s flair for grand gestures, so you already know the receipts weren’t light. Davido himself revealed in a video that the Miami wedding alone set him back about $3.7 million in cash. While Mr Eazi and Temi kept their figures under wraps, the exclusive nature of their Icelandic destination wedding—complete with a handpicked guest list of high-profile attendees—makes it safe to say it was a lavish, intimate affair with a price tag to match.

“We have spent $3.7 million in cash. So we should know what we are doing. We are going crazy,” Davido previously joked.

Star-Studded Attendance

Celebrity guests graced both weddings, with Aliko Dangote making a not-so-surprising appearance at both exclusive events. For their intimate ceremony, Mr. Eazi and Temi Otedola’s guest list was family-focused and included Temi’s sister, DJ Cuppy. Their venue, the iconic Hallgrímskirkja Church, was privately transformed into magic with flowers. In contrast, Davido and Chioma’s star-studded affair in Miami included a broader range of Nigeria's elite, such as Governor Adeleke, and featured a live performance from D'banj at the after-party. The guest lists perfectly reflected the different styles of each wedding—one intimate and elegant, the other a public spectacle.

A Tale of Two Love Stories-

Ghana-born banku pioneer Mr Eazi—who first broke through with the smash “Skin Tight” in 2016 and followed it with chart-topping mixtapes like Life Is Eazi, Vol. 1 – Accra to Lagos in 2017—has been romantically linked to Nigerian heiress Temi Otedola since 2018

The pair officially tied the knot in an intimate affair at Reykjavík’s Hallgrímskirkja Church on August 9, 2025. Although they’ve been a couple for about seven years and share no children, their subtle elegance and cross-cultural bonds have captivated fans.

On the other side of the spectrum, billionaire scion and serial hitmaker Davido—remember singles like “Fall,” “If,” “FIA,” “Aye” and most recently one of the biggest Summer Afrobeat songs of this summer 2025, “With You” (ft Omah Lay)—has had a high-profile romance with longtime partner Chioma Rowland, officially fiancée since 2019. The couple weathered tragedy with the loss of their son, Ifeanyi, in 2022, legally married in 2023, and welcomed twins the same year. Their spectacular white wedding in Miami, followed their traditional Lagos ceremony in June 2024—another extravagant celebration that sent social media into a frenzy.

At the heart of the lavish celebration, Chioma’s wedding vows moved many to tears as she described Davido as her “love, best friend, and calm in my storm.” Promising to walk beside him for life, she said, “Nobody knows or loves us like we do. Today, I am holding your hands, and I am going to walk with you forever.”

Davido’s response was equally emotional and candid. He called Chioma his “love, peace, and home,” confessing, “I have been on many stages, but this is the most nervous I have ever been. You are my love, my peace, my home. You came into my life quietly and became the most loudest and beautiful part of it. You saw the real me, the me the world doesn’t see, and you still choose me,” he said.

The Ghana-Nigerian power couple, on the other hand, have spoken about how they first met. One word to describe the quiet star power they both share is “ease.”

Fashion Highlights- The Brides!

The fashion at both weddings perfectly mirrored their settings. For their quiet Icelandic affair, Temi Otedola wore an elegant, understated gown by Alonuko Bridal, a choice that reflected the serene, minimalist backdrop. Mr. Eazi complemented her polished aesthetic. By contrast, Chioma's fashion in Miami was a high-octane spectacle. Her weekend wardrobe was a rotation of show-stopping looks, including a gold-and-bronze beaded gown by her sister, Jennifer Rowland. Davido matched her extravagance with a series of custom, sharp looks from multiple designers, proving their celebration was a true couture fairytale.

In one unforgettable weekend, two of Africa's most iconic music stars celebrated love, legacy, and cultural pride in their own inimitable styles. From the icy tranquility of Iceland to the sun-soaked extravagance of Miami, both Mr. Eazi and Davido proved that when it comes to forever, there’s no right or wrong way to say "I do"—just your way.
