The Old Guard 2 Is Coming—And We’re Still Riding for Nile

The immortals are back.

The Old Guard 2 is officially set to drop on Netflix on July 2, and we’re particularly hyped to see the return of Nile Freeman, played by powerhouse Kiki Layne. While the first film established Charlize Theron's Andy as the brooding, ancient leader of the crew, it was Nile—a Black woman soldier who discovers she's immortal—that gave the franchise its emotional heart.

Directed by Victoria Mahoney and starring Charlize Theron, Kiki Layne, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Luca Marinelli, and Matthias Schoenaerts, the sequel promises to expand the mythology of the immortal warriors while doubling down on the action, moral complexity, and representation.

Kiki Layne’s portrayal of Nile was a game-changer in the first installment. Her journey from modern-day U.S. Marine to global protector was as emotional as it was badass, making her one of the most compelling Black action leads in recent memory.

With more screen time reportedly coming her way in Part 2, we’ll be watching closely to see how Nile evolves, what truths she uncovers, and how her leadership grows in a group that's centuries old.
