Colman Domingo in Talks to Co-Write Live-Action Princess Tiana Film

Colman Domingo is in talks to co-write an original live-action feature centred on Princess Tiana, expanding the world of Disney's The Princess and the Frog.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Domingo will write the project alongside Tony-nominated playwright and director Robert O'Hara. The film is described as an original story inspired by the 2009 animated classic rather than a shot-for-shot live-action remake. Deals for both creatives are still being finalised.

The development comes amid renewed interest in Tiana following Disney's reimagining of Splash Mountain as Tiana's Bayou Adventure and years of fan calls for the character to return to the screen.

Released in 2009, The Princess and the Frog introduced Disney's first Black princess and remains one of the studio's most culturally significant animated films, celebrated for its New Orleans setting, jazz-infused soundtrack and portrayal of Black aspiration and community.

No casting, plot details or release date have been announced. If confirmed, the project would mark another major creative milestone for Domingo, whose work continues to span acting, producing and screenwriting.
