Lagos, Nigeria—77: The FESTAC Conspiracy debuted in style, transforming the Imax Lekki into a haven of cultural nostalgia and cinematic flair. Directed by the legendary Izu Ojukwu, this sequel to the Netflix hit 76 trades coup drama for the dazzling chaos of FESTAC '77—Africa's largest cultural festival—and somehow still delivers edge-of-your-seat tension.

Panelists included director Ojukwu, stars Ramsey Nouah and Rita Dominic, cast members Adonijah Owiriwa and Soibifaa Dokubo, along with writer Olisa Eloka and executive producer Prince Tonye Princewill. Waxing lyrical about resurrecting a chapter of African history that feels surprisingly timely, they dove into the cultural and political echoes of FESTAC ’77, showing how relevant those themes are today. From the challenges of recreating such a historical moment to the global resonance of the story, the panelists painted a vivid picture of the film’s ambitious goal to inspire, educate, and entertain.
In case you missed it, this isn’t just about fancy costumes and grand speeches. Kene Okwuosa, CEO of FilmHouse Group, quipped, “It’s a love letter to Nigerian resilience and a reminder that our stories matter.” And yes, the trailer also teased stellar performances and enough suspense to leave critics cautiously optimistic.
