Happy New Year!!! Before the new year there was definitely Christmas, so I will highlight the movies that I found to be interesting, intriguing, entertaining, educating and christmassy on YouTube.
YouTube has been around for a while but the majority of Nigerian filmmakers' attention were not focused on releasing their movies on YouTube or even the majority of smartphone users were not the type to watch movies on YouTube.
But I can tell you for a fact, that for the past three to two years it has been a different story. Nollywood movies on YouTube have changed the game not just in Nigeria but other African countries. There have been more Nigerian filmmakers releasing their movies on YouTube which equals more viewers of Nigerian movies from around the globe. This actually brought about a healthy competition among Nigerian filmmakers resulting in the release of standard movies; storyline, actors performance, costume, picture quality etc.
Due to the large numbers of movies released on YouTube,it could be a hassle choosing which to watch, that is why I took it upon myself to highlight some.
The Homecoming

A Christmas themed movie executively produced by Bimbo Ademoye, known for her comedy dramas like Unexpected Places, Ruse among others on her YouTube channel Bimbo Ademoye Tv.
Home Coming stars Nollywood multi talented actress Bisola Aiyeola, Award winning actor Timini Egbuson, Bimbo Ademoye herself,Biodun Stephen, Osereme Inegbenebor and others.
Released on Christmas Eve, the story highlights family, love, grief and workplace relationships. This is an interesting movie with an emotional tune to it, you might need some tissue while watching.
The actors were amazing, with their portrayal of emotions, delivery of dialogue especially with the pitch and tune of their words, body language and facial expression.
Actors like Bisola Ayeiola and Osereme Inegbenebor played characters different from whatever we have seen them play before, and they indeed did justice to their characters.
Asides major actors, extras got moments in their scene, and these scenes were used to create realistic happenings for example the rude Uber rider.
This movie which could have been a full romantic movie is found to be a romantic sub-genre which I appreciated. Let's not forget we have had Bimbo Ademoye and Timini Egbuson in two romantic movies on the same YouTube channel, so this approach did not make me feel I have had enough of Timini Egbuson and Bimbo Ademoye as love interests.
The stylists for this movie showed up and showed off, kudos to them for the beautiful pieces brought on our screens.
Speaking of Bisola Ayeiola's costume Bimbo Ademoye said Bisola's character was inspired by Meryl Streep's character Miranda Priestly in The Devil wears Prada. This was said in an Instagram post.
As much as this movie was amazing the colour grading wasn't the best, the colours were off at some scenes but notwithstanding expect to smile, giggle, roll your eyes, hate on some characters and be emotional while watching this movie.
Christmas on a Budget

Family drama, love , and comedy are the genres in this movie. This movie actually reminds me of Bling Lagosians. Christmas on a Budget is available on Omoni Oboli TV. This is one of her Christmas themed movies to celebrate the holidays. In case you love this, then check out others Seasoned with Love, Merry Side of You etc.
Executively produced by Omoni Oboli and Tomi Adeoye, starring Patrick Doyle, Ayo Adesanya, Eso Dike, Shaun Okojie, Ruby Okozie, Cynthia Clark, and others.
The story is about a very extravagant wealthy family, who are not so prudent with spending and you can imagine what their christmas party will be like but things might not be as planned as the family business is going through some financial setbacks.
Watch to know if the family will continue with the preparation of their extravagant Christmas party with no money fund it, among other issues going on in the family.
Actors that peaked my interest, starting with Eso Dike. If he has been your on-screen sweetheart, there is a 95 percent chance you will find him very annoying in this movie. Watch and see. Next is Ruby Okozie and Shaun Okojie, their love is so soothing to watch. I would like to watch them as love interests in another movie.
Home for Christmas

This is a story about a single mom in her 40's who found herself falling in love with a man in his 30's although faced with different challenges, what became their deal breaker was something interesting to say the least.
Home for Christmas is available on Uche Jumbo TV, starring Uche Jombo, Tina Mba, Ray Adeka, Judith Ushi and others.
This story highlights the struggles of single mothers , and how they are being stereotyped, a very realistic story in which the actors gave a good performance.
My favorite actor is Tina Mba, her performance was so good and entertaining, an actor that peaked my interest is Judith Ushi, her performance was so authentic
Not a Wonderful Time of the Year

This is an emotional drama about a widower who lost his wife during the Christmas period, and since then has not had a reason to celebrate Christmas or remarry.
Starring Daniel Etim Effiong, Onyii Alex, Darasimi Nadi, Uche Jumbo and others, available on Ibaka Tv.
Not a wonderful time of the year is a family movie which preaches about second chances
This movie is emotional, could be triggering to viewers especially those who have lost loved ones during the Christmas period
Heart on the Line

This is a series on Bluu Tv, which tells the story of the second son of a real estate mogul who feels outcasted by his father compared to affection showered on his elder brother which in turn makes him want to do everything and anything possible to get acceptance and acknowledgement from his father.
Heart on the Line is produced and directed by Abimbola Craig, remember her from Skinny Girl in Transit, another cast from Skinny Girl in Transit in this series is Ayoola Ayolola and also Mimi Chaka from “The Men’s Club, other actors are Akin Lewis, Seun Akindele, Ame Aiyejina,Tomike Adeoye, Shalewa Ashafa, Tomi Ojo.
So far, six episodes have been released, new episodes come in every week, this is a series i think even the busiest person will enjoy asides the intriguing story with very good performances from the cast. Each episode is less than 30 minutes and at the end of each episode you will wish it was longer.
The producer and director Abimbola Craig said in an interview that we hardly get a point of view story from the middle borns, most times we have movies highlighting the struggles of first born sons and daughters. I totally agree and I can not wait to see how this story pans out. It is actually worth binge watching and you definitely enjoy watching this series especially if you are a fan of Ayoola Ayolola and Mimi Chaka in The Men’s Club.
These are the movies/series, that made my holiday and I advise you watch them too, I hope you find them as interesting as I did.
