In some fabulous news for fans of fierce fits, big laughs, and even bigger heart—Survival of the Thickest is officially coming back for a third and final season on Netflix!

The hit comedy series, co-created by Michelle Buteau and based on her 2020 essay collection of the same name, has struck a chord with audiences since its premiere. Netflix confirmed today that Season 3 is in development, and will continue to follow Mavis and her vibrant crew as they tackle new challenges in love, career, and community.

“Michelle Buteau is the heart and soul of this show,” said a Netflix representative. “The warmth, the comedy, and the style she brings have made Survival of the Thickest a standout for two seasons—and we’re excited to keep the magic going.”

Season 2 left fans with some big moments to digest: new romance sparks, a dream client opportunity, and the ever-present push and pull of staying true to yourself while striving for more. With the announcement of a new season, viewers can look forward to deeper stories, fresh looks, and of course—plenty of iconic one-liners.

Buteau, who stars, writes, and executive produces the series, shared her excitement on Instagram with her signature wit:

“WE’RE BAAAAACK! Season 3 is coming, so grab your shapewear and your snacks. We’re not done telling these stories yet, babes!”

In an entertainment landscape that continues to expand its definition of beauty and success, Survival of the Thickest remains a feel-good trailblazer that doesn’t hold back on truth—or style. No release date has been confirmed yet for Season 3, but production is expected to begin later this year. Stay tuned to Black Film Wire for more updates as the story unfolds!
