New York, USA & Lagos, Nigeria — September 2025 — SBB Media will unveil Her Story Global, its flagship publishing and storytelling platform dedicated to amplifying the voices of African women, with an intimate brunch and readings event in New York during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) High-Level Week (23–29 September 2025). The 80th session of the UN General Assembly opens on 9 September, with this milestone year marking the UN’s 80th anniversary under the theme “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights.”
The event builds on the acclaimed Her Story initiative — a published collection featuring more than 40 women, including global leaders such as Her Majesty Queen Ivie Atuwatse III, Queen of the Warri Kingdom — now expanded into an international storytelling platform (HerStoryGlobal.com). The New York brunch is the first in a series of international gatherings, with additional convenings planned in Dubai and the UK, connecting storytellers with their communities across continents.
The programme will feature live readings, a panel discussion, book signings, and networking over hors d’oeuvres. Confirmed readers include Her Story contributors such as social impact leader Mary Dinah, filmmaker and advocate Nkiru Achukwu, diplomat Her Excellency Amb. Dr. Olufolake Abdulrazaq (First Lady of Kwara State), consultant specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology Kemi DaSilva Ibru, and community-builder Lola Omolola, founder of Female IN. Their first-person testimonies will engage directly with UNGA 80’s milestone theme, “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights,” and its emphasis on gender equality (SDG 5), inclusion (SDG 10), and health and wellbeing.
Through this launch, SBB Media seeks to demonstrate the power of women’s narratives to shift international attention and inspire tangible change. By situating African women’s stories at the heart of UNGA’s 80th-anniversary theme of “Better Together,” Her Story Global underscores the urgency of collective action, solidarity, and multilateralism in advancing peace, development, and human rights.
By situating women’s narratives at the heart of UNGA’s high-level week, SBB Media aims to connect storytellers with diplomats, funders, and development partners — ensuring the stories inspire dialogue and translate into action.
