Grief and disbelief ripple across screens worldwide: beloved actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner has passed away at 54 from an accidental drowning during a family vacation in Costa Rica, according to multiple sources, including the Associated Press, Variety, and CNN.

Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Department reports Warner was swimming at Playa Cocles on the Caribbean coast—pulled out by a rip current. Bystanders attempted to rescue him, and Red Cross first responders performed CPR, but he was pronounced dead after being pulled from the water.
